Bauernwehr knife belongs to the family of so-called Langmessers.
It appears in the second half of the 15th century. Around 1470 it was already quite widespread and popular weapon among peasants, burghers and the lower nobility. It was most widespread in Switzerland, southern and central Germany and Austria.
The length and width of the blade varies, from about 25 cm to 50 cm in some cases. It is characterized by the so-called protective thorn, but it may also appear without the thorn. It often also occurs in a set with another knife or cutlery (knife and picker). The handle is usually wooden, often also made of antler and then riveted (hollow rivets – rollnieten).
A number of Bauernwehrs have already been produced in the Arrigos workshop. Price of the set (a long knife and a cutlery set in the scabbard) starts at 190, – Eur. Individual variants according to the customer’s wishes then have a price that depends on individual processing.
We crafted this blade from POLDI spring steel 14 260 and harden them on 53 Rockwells blunt and 55 Rockwells sharp.
